For the second year in a row Moscow International Biennale for Young Art with the support of SIBUR holding is conducting Portfolio review in Tobolsk, a town in Tyumen Oblast, for young artists from the regions of company’s presence. Artists under 35 years old residing at the territory of Volga, Ural and Siberian Federal Districts could apply for participation within an open call. The experts selected on a competitive basis 29 finalists out of over 60 applications submitted, who were invited to Tobolsk.
Young artists met face-to-face leading representatives of art society and received recommendations on further professional development. Experts of the project are art historian Sergey Khachaturov, art theorist and head of Science Department of Moscow Museum of Modern Art Andrey Egorov and curator of Moscow Museum of Modern Art Anna Zhurba.
Experts pointed out the variety of artistic techniques: drawing, painting, photography, video art, and emphasized the positive aspect of broadening the geography of the project.
Free of charge public lectures were held during three days for the participants of the Portfolio review project and Tobolsk audience. The educational program was featuring Alexey Novoselov, deputy director of Moscow Museum of Modern Art, Svetlana Baskova, director of educational and research platform of Baza Institute, Olya Kroytor, artist, the winner of Young Artist nomination of Kandinsky Prize, Veronica Kandaurova, PR director of Moscow Museum of Modern Art and Alisa Bagdonaite, head curator of the Zarya Centre for Contemporary Art in Vladivostok.
Irina Burbo manager of SIBUR welfare program “Formula of good deeds” commented: “Such projects are of high influence on intensifying cultural life in the regions. We discussed a lot with the partners and experts of the project the importance of consistent work in this direction, so that each event has continuation and dynamics. In the short term we will meet the experts participating at Portfolio review to plan the further steps on work with the talented artists, who took part in the project”.
